RM / IT Collaboration – Bridging the Gap: Course Description

This 2-day program will cover vital functional steps to improve operational collaboration between an organization's RM & IT departments and staff. Course Goal:

The use of information technology to create, use and manage records that were once created, used and managed in paper or microform is now widespread. As a result those traditionally responsible for the management of records, the Records Managers, need to be knowledgeable about the technologies used to create and store digital records. At the same time, IT professionals are discovering that they need strategies, tools and techniques to manage the content of IT systems and are discovering that Records Management can help. Through this course, participants will obtain an understanding of the differences, similarities and relationship between Records Management and IT terminology, concepts, principles, processes and standards.

  • Provide participants with a Records Management background with an understanding of the key terms, concepts, principles, processes and standards of IT.
  • Provide participants with an IT background with an understanding of the key terms, concepts, principles, processes and standards of Records Management.
  • Guide participants through a structured dialogue about the differences, similarities and relationships between key terms, concepts, principles, processes and standards used in the two fields

RM / IT Collaboration – Bridging the Gap: Course Format

  • The topics will be broken down into modules of 1-2 hour each over two days.
  • Participants will begin and end the workshop with a knowledge self-assessment as a means of measuring knowledge growth and attainment of learning objectives; time will be left at the end of the workshop to fill remaining knowledge gaps
  • Participants will be encouraged to engage in discussion to enhance learning through the exchange of personal experiences and understandings
