Cloud Computing - Managing Records & Information in the Cloud: Course Description

Identifying what documents need to be retained as records is considered a huge step in the RIM process. But what happens when that information needs to be preserved for the long term? What happens when a disaster strikes? What technological alternatives do you have to manage electronic records besides investing in software licenses and growing mass storage farms? The "Cloud", defined as the delivery of computing as a service rather than as a product, is touted as the solution to these challenges and more. It's been listed on Gartner's top 10 list of hot technologies for 2012. And yet, many don't understand the role this approach can take in their overall records management implementation and digital preservation strategy. This workshop will define how the cloud can be used to support your overall Records Management implementations, the questions and evaluation criteria that need to be developed when considering Cloud solutions, how to develop a vital records program to be prepared to recover business-critical records that can be supported by the Cloud and the digital preservation process that should be in place to manage information long after the media it's on has become obsolete
